The Missing Middle:
Defining the Gap
A city is only as strong as its workforce. Across Texas, the people who provide our essential services—from healthcare to education—are being priced out of the neighborhoods they serve. We are here to change that through community education, policy reform, and strategic partnerships.
Too Much for Assistance.
Too Little for a Home.
Traditional housing tools are designed for the extreme ends of the economic spectrum, often leaving a critical gap in between. We call this the Missing Middle. These are the nurses, teachers, first responders, and retail workers, who form the backbone of our economy.
Because they earn more than the limits for traditional housing assistance but not enough to afford market-rate rents in high-opportunity areas, they are forced into long commutes and housing instability.
The Data
The Threshold:

In This House focuses on housing solutions for working individuals earning between $25,450 and $67,850 per year, and families earning between $36,350 and $96,900 per year.
The Deficit:
Dallas currently needs 46,000+ affordable homes just to meet current demand.
Advocacy in Action: From Stigma to Systemic Change
For too long, affordable housing has been stigmatized by outdated models that concentrated poverty and divided communities. We are advocating for a new standard.
Become a YIMBY
We challenge the "Not In My Backyard" mindset. We believe in high-quality, mixed-income developments that enhance neighborhood diversity. We believe communities have to say “Yes, In My Backyard” to the core workforce that makes our city work.
Proximity is Equity
Our policy work focuses on placing residents near quality schools, reliable transit, and stable employment hubs. We push for policies that address the historical impact of exclusionary zoning, working to ensure that Dallas’s housing future is more inclusive than its past.
We favor mixed-income developments that stabilize property values and enhance neighborhood diversity.
The Mixed-Income Model:
A Holistic Blueprint
Our solution goes beyond building units to focus on building a better community model. By integrating workforce housing into high-quality, multi-family developments, we create environments where people from all socio-economic backgrounds live side-by-side.
This model fosters social mobility, reduces racial and economic isolation, and ensures that those who serve our community can afford to be a part of it.
